Frequently Asked Questions

How long have you been doing this?

By middle school, in the late 90's, I was tinkering with HTML on free hosting platforms such as Angelfire and Geocities. Back then, FRAMES were the flavor of the month. In high school I was chosen to design the school's first website. It remained active until the district consolidated into one network developed by a major IT corporation.

I graduated college with a Bachelor's degree in Visual Arts in 2007. It's a pretty cool piece of paper.

Since graduation, I provided visual and web design services on the side while working a day-job. They say if you follow your passion, you'll never have to work a day in your life. To that end, UpprLVL was founded as a freelance graphic design studio in April of 2014.

How much does it cost? / What's your price?

Designer fees on projects - like many other services - are dependent on the scope, scale, materials, and the timeframe imposed on the project. What I can tell you is that my designer fees are:

1. Always quoted up front before any work is done and money crosses hands,
2. fully transparent - NO hidden fees, and
3. appropriate to the scope of the project.

I am competitive in my pricing, so if you do happen to shop around - but still interested in my quality of work - please feel free to come back to me with my competitor's quote.

Do you require a retainer / deposit?

Project fees above $50 USD require a 25% retainer that is applied to the total fee. Balance is due upon acceptance of the final proof and before final delivery.

Is there sales tax?

UpprLVL is registered in the state of New Jersey. Most design-based services are taxable by law on customers who are New Jersey residents. Sales tax is not collected on customers who are out-of-state residents, however you may be responsible for a use tax depending on your state's tax law.

Do you work for free (or on promise of exposure?)

No. However - under certain circumstances - I may offer a PWYW (Pay What You Want) model on projects for repeat customers in good standing or for established non-profit organizations.

How long does it take?

As part of my "uPPPPr" promise, I work as quickly and efficiently as possible on client projects. Some projects may take 2-3 days. Other projects may take 4-6 months. I performed a project turnaround in 24 hours. It all depends on the scope of work, the amount of revision needed to ensure 100% customer satisfaction, and if there are any specified deadlines.

Do you meet with your clients?

I am located in Madison, NJ. I can schedule to meet with clients. Below are some general policies regarding travel.

Within 50-mile radius: Yes - Free
Greater than 50-mile radius:    Yes, but a $0.50/mi charge will be applied.
Out-of-state: Yes, but client must cover flight costs.
International: Video conferencing only.

What's your policy on Copyrights?

All projects are by "Assignment," which means that the customer has complete rights and ownership to the final product, including the right to modify, resell, and redistribute. I retain the right to display the product in the designer portfolio.
